SUMMARY:W. Miller Barbour & His Prospect For Freedom 
DESCRIPTION:Long before the modern Civil Rights Movement\, W. Miller Barbour (1908–1957) dedicated his life to advancing racial equality and human rights. A Middletown native and Elizabethtown College graduate\, Barbour rose from local roots to become a pioneering civil rights leader\, serving with the Urban League in Denver and Los Angeles. Through advocacy\, community organizing\, and interracial dialogue\, he expanded opportunities for African Americans decades before the landmark victories of the 1960s. This presentation explores Barbour’s remarkable journey from central Pennsylvania to the forefront of early civil rights activism and examines the enduring legacy of a forgotten champion for equality. \nEric Schubert is a public historian\, genealogist\, and forensic genetic genealogist as seen on Good Morning America and more. He serves on the Executive Committee of the Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster County and is a White House Historical Association Next-Gen Leader. Schubert earned his M.A. in History at Millersville University. He is part of the research team which contributed to the award-winning documentary The Prospect for Freedom: W. Miller Barbour’s Human Rights Journey and organized the W. Miller Barbour Lecture Series alongside Abigail Sholes\, which seeks to reintroduce Barbour’s legacy to communities across Pennsylvania.

DESCRIPTION:Learn how to transform your stormwater chaos into a creative conservation landscaping project!\n\n\nWith increasing storm intensity\, are you discovering more water on your property than you can manage? In this course\, you’ll learn how to calculate the rain runoff volume of impervious surfaces (roof\, driveway\, etc.) and how to transform your stormwater chaos into a creative conservation landscaping project. Participants will practice the math calculation skills on-site at Tec Centro. \nParticipants will receive the planning tools needed to navigate their stormwater issue with more insight and ease! \n \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. Smaller patches of native habitats spread throughout urban landscapes are also essential to creating corridors of habitat – food and refuge – for wildlife. This is why we are offering our Habitat Advocate classes at Tec Centro in Lancaster City. \nThe cost of the Habitat Advocate classes covers instructor fees. She is certified as a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional and Ecological/Permaculture Designer\, along with earning an Ecological Gardening Certification from Mt. Cuba Center. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Education\, 7-12 Biology Teaching Certification\, and participated in Cornell University’s Civic Ecology program. \nElyse works alongside homeowners in a participatory approach to their gardening for wildlife needs\, infusing educational opportunities during the design\, installation\, and stewarding process. She invites homeowners to deeply engage with their land to maximize its potential in enhancing human well-being and supporting dwindling wildlife populations. \n \nAbout this Class\nOpen for general admission\, no prerequisite necessary for this class!
