He received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1989. \nHaejin Fujimura is a lawyer\, entrepreneur\, speaker\, and strategist whose work bridges justice\, beauty\, and cultural transformation. \nShe is the founding attorney of Shim & Associates\, a law firm rooted in cultural renewal\, and the CEO and cofounder of Embers International\, a global non-profit working to end family exploitation and human trafficking. \nHer entrepreneurial ventures include Culture Care Creative\, Academy Kintsugi\, and Fujimura Institute. \nTogether the Fujimuras have served as Equity in Action Visiting Scholars at the University of Pennsylvania. DESCRIPTION:Come help us observe at Welsh Mountain Nature Preserve with the science of phenology!\n\n\nPhenology is the science of seasonal change in nature\, using observations collected over time to see how these changes affect flora and fauna. In partnership with the USGS Phenology Network and Nature’s Notebook\, this workshop will teach you the science of phenology and how you can collect and contribute your own observations as a volunteer scientist. This information helps us to be better stewards of our ecological communities and helps Lancaster Conservancy’s stewardship team make management decisions for our nature preserves. The data we collect is not only useful to us\, but to hundreds of phenology projects around the region and nation! \nLearn more about this community science project at https://www.lancasterconservancy.org/engaging-our-community/phenology/. \nWhat to Expect: Explore the diversity of the mature oak and hickory forest at Welsh Mountain Nature Preserve and all the species we’re watching below the canopy. We’ll partner with our phenology volunteer observation team to learn what they’ve been tracking and what they’ve learned about this beautiful preserve. This event is for ages 13 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). \nWhat to Bring: Dress for the weather and bring water. Bring a notebook or\, if you have an existing account/app with USGS My Nature Notebook\, your smart phone or tablet. There is a port-a-john available at the nature preserve. \nEvent Leader Bio: Peggy Eppig is an environmental historian and dynamic conservation educator who offers a hands-on approach to every theme from deep-time history to 21st century conservation methods and practices. The Ephrata Rec Center\, a cornerstone of our town since 1951\, provides vital recreational programs\, while Mainspring of Ephrata works tirelessly to enhance our local economy and build a vibrant\, welcoming community. \nOur confirmed beverage vendor list includes some of your favorite beer vendors Pour Mans Brewing Company\, St. Boniface\, Rural City Beer Co\, Lancaster Brewing Company\, South County Brewing Company and Inspiration Brewing. We didn’t forget about our wine enthusiasts and non-beer drinkers. Glasshouse Wineworks\, Lavender Acres Winery and Old Republic Distillery will also be in attendance! \nCome hungry! DESCRIPTION:Join us as we connect with nature through creativity!\n\n\nExplore both horizontal and vertical scenes of the forested landscape with forest forensics and seven layers of the architecture of trees. Work on one landscape rendering or travel the universally accessible trail for several examples of the seven story forest with media of your choice. \nWhat to expect and how to prepare: This event will include up to a 1-mile out-and-back hike on mostly flat trail with some steady but easy inclines. Dress for the weather and bring drinking water. Participants are asked to supply their own sketchbooks\, field supplies\, and camp chair or sit pads if necessary. No experience required. This is a no judgement zone! This event is recommended for ages 12 and up (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). There are port-a-johns available on site. \nRefund Policy: These events usually sell out. If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, please let us know so we can open a spot to someone on the waitlist. Refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event\, attendees will be emailed\, and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date.
