SUMMARY:Grow a Pollinator Patch: Turn a Piece of Grass into a Pollinator Paradise
DESCRIPTION:Join us during Water Week to learn how to transform a boring patch of grass into a blooming\, buzzing\, water-cleaning micro-meadow.\n\n\nTurf grass—sometimes called “green concrete”—sheds nearly as much stormwater as blacktop. By contrast\, deep-rooted native plants absorb and filter water\, while also providing vital habitat for wildlife. This hands-on workshop will help you transform a small area of lawn (approx 24-40 SF) into a thriving “Pollinator Patch.” Participants will walk away with a garden design\, plant list\, and experience with the “sheet mulching” method to prepare their sites. Experienced native gardeners will offer guidance to tailor the design to your yard and goals. You’ll also receive exclusive coupons for native plants or ecological landscaping services and connect with others committed to supporting local biodiversity. Participants should plan to sheet mulch soon after the workshop in preparation for fall planting\, when cooler weather supports strong root growth with less watering. \n \nA separate nature-themed kids’ activity will be available for families who preregister. Kids 16 and over are welcome to join the workshop as adults. \n \nSponsored by Gardens Gone Native (gardensgonenative.org) and Lancaster Friends Meeting’s Landscape Committee. Both are dedicated to nurturing local ecosystems by growing native plants. \n\n\n\nWhat is Lancaster Water Week? \nNow celebrating its 10th anniversary\, Lancaster Water Week\, seeks to educate and empower our community to care for the 1\,400 miles of streams and rivers in Lancaster County. Join us for over 60 events as we paddle\, explore\, volunteer\, and take action for the streams and rivers of Lancaster County! Learn more: www.lancasterwaterweek.org
