SUMMARY:Habitat Advocate: Qigong - Mindful Movement for Gardeners
DESCRIPTION:Explore mindful movement to tend to your best habitat restoration tool – your human body!\n\n\nWhether you are seeking gentle warm-ups to prevent injury or meditative motions to connect to the spaces you steward\, Qigong offers a way to easefully warm\, transform\, and activate energy in your body. \nParticipants will explore the philosophy of Qigong\, a practice developed in China thousands of years ago\, and practice mindful movement forms in a group setting as insight for later personal practice. Please wear comfortable clothing for gentle movement. \n \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. Smaller patches of native habitats spread throughout urban landscapes are also essential to creating corridors of habitat – food and refuge – for wildlife. This is why we are offering our Habitat Advocate classes at Tec Centro in Lancaster City. \nThe cost of the Habitat Advocate classes covers instructor fees. If the cost of this class is prohibitive\, please reach out to Keith Williams\, VP of Engagement and Education\, at kwilliams@lancasterconservancy.org. \n \nYour Presenter\nElyse Jurgen\, M.Ed\, CBLP\, CERP\, owner of Waxwing EcoWorks Co.\, is a community collaborator inspired by rebuilding ecological literacy and biodiversity with her team of ecological practitioners. Ample hikes and plant community observations in nature spark her imagination\, bringing a rare blend of art and science into her practice. Her work deepens your connection to place and empowers you to take meaningful action to maximize your land’s potential to support wildlife and enhance human well-being. \nShe is certified as an Ecological Restoration Practitioner (CERP)\, Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP)\, Permaculture Designer\, and earned an Ecological Gardening Certification from Mt. Cuba Center. She holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education\, 7-12 Biology Teaching Certification\, and participated in Cornell University’s Civic Ecology program. \nElyse is a Qigong Level 1 Instructor in training. \n \nAbout this Class\nOpen for general admission\, no prerequisite necessary for this class! This class is one of three Art + Culture Classes in our Habitat Advocate Series. For those looking to complete their Habitat Advocate Certificate\, only one of the Art + Culture classes need to be completed. Attendees ages 16 and over are invited but must be accompanied by an adult if younger than 18. \nLearn more about Habitat Advocate classes and certification here. \n \nRefund/Cancellation Policies\nRefund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least two weeks before the event. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event\, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event\, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded. \n \nPhoto Credit: Elyse Jurgen of Waxwing EcoWorks Co. \n \nThank you to our host Tec Centro and partners Waxwing EcoWorks Co. and the Spanish American Civic Association (SACA)!\nThank you also to our incredible Annual Sponsors for their generous support!
