DESCRIPTION:Join other curious conservation peers for this introduction to native habitats!\n\n\nJoin other curious conservation peers for this introduction to designing\, building\, and stewarding native habitats! This is the introductory class for the series and is required for a majority of the other classes as well as for those wishing to complete a Habitat Advocate Certification. Gain baseline awareness of why conservation landscaping is a multifaceted approach in solving our water\, climate\, and habitat crises. The scope of the Lancaster Conservancy Habitat Advocate Certificate program will also be shared. \nStudents will receive a binder of compiled native habitat resources ($30 value). \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. Smaller patches of native habitats spread throughout urban landscapes are also essential to creating corridors of habitat – food and refuge – for wildlife. This is why we are offering our Habitat Advocate program at Tec Centro in Lancaster City. \nThe cost of the Habitat Advocate classes covers instructor fees. If the cost of this class is prohibitive\, please reach out to Keith Williams\, VP of Engagement and Education\, at kwilliams@lancasterconservancy.org. \n \nYour Presenters\nLinda Ferich retired from a career in emergency and occupational health nursing in 2013 and became a PA Master Naturalist. She coordinates the Lancaster Conservancy’s Community Wildlife Habitat program\, a partnership with National Wildlife Federation. Through this program\, Lancaster County has become the first county in PA to become a certified NWF Community Wildlife Habitat. \nLinda enjoys doing property assessments to teach how to develop habitat and control stormwater. Linda studies native plants and designs ecological gardens as a certified Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional and student of Mt. Cuba Center’s Ecological Gardening program. She and a few conservation-minded friends formed the Lancaster Native Plant Alliance\, a chapter of PA Native Plant Society. The alliance promotes the use of native plants in all landscape settings through collaboration\, education\, and advocacy. \n \nAbout Habitat Advocate Classes\nNote that this introductory course is required as a prerequisite before taking most of the other following classes in the Habitat Advocate series to ensure all students have a shared baseline of understanding on the topic of wildlife habitat and conservation landscaping. Future classes will build on the information learned in this class. \nAttendees ages 16 and over are invited but must be accompanied by an adult if younger than 18. \n \nRefund/Cancellation Policies\nRefund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least two weeks before the event. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation a day in advance for severe weather. DESCRIPTION:DOORS @ 7PM | $35 ADV / $40 DOS | ALL AGES\n\n\nSpacehog were formed by natives of Leeds\, England in the spring of 1994 in New York City. Guitarist Antony Langdon met drummer Jonny Cragg at a café in the East Village\, where Cragg worked killing rats in the basement. The pair agreed to make music and Langdon persuaded his younger brother Royston to move to the States to sing and play bass. The current lineup was finally completed by Craggs’ friend Richard Steel who moved to New York to fill out an all Yorkshire lineup. \nThe band quickly generated a following and record company interest with their epic live shows and sharp\, irreverent and mesmerizing song craft. They signed with Sire Records in the Spring of 1995. Spacehog\, with producer Bryce Goggin recorded their platinum debut at Bearsville Studios later that year\, scoring a mega-hit single with “In The Meantime” in early 1996. The band’s follow up\, The Chinese Album\, was released in 1998\, taking a more thoughtful and conceptual approach\, it consolidated their appeal In Europe and South America\, and tours with Red Hot Chili Peppers\, Aerosmith and Sex Pistols. \nThe advent of the new millennium saw more touring with REM and Oasis and a third album The Hogyssey\, recorded at Ardent Studios in Memphis with producer Paul Ebersold Spacehog were largely inactive from 2001 until July 2006 when they reformed to play Craggs’ birthday party. The party served as a catalyst for recording their fourth studio LP As It Is on Earth \,again with Goggin and released in 2013. \nIn 2024 the band contributed to the GRAMMY®-nominated soundtrack to Guardians Of The Galaxy 3. And now after this long ride the band has decided to saddle up once again. \n\n\nIn compliance with PA state law\, there will be a designated section for minors under the age of 21

The festival centers on Penn Square and extends one block in each direction along King and Queen Streets\, with many downtown shops and restaurants joining in with their own Capital Day offerings. \nHistory on stage\nThe main stage moves through Lancaster’s role in American history over the course of the day\, roughly a century every two hours: William Penn’s Charter (1681) at 10:05 AM\, the founding of Lancaster City (1730) at 11:00\, Lancaster as U.S. capital (1777) at noon\, James Buchanan’s inauguration and the Civil War era in the early afternoon\, the Roaring ’20s\, World War II\, the Civil Rights era\, and immigration and city renewal later in the day\, closing with a look at the future of Lancaster at 5:00 PM. \nMusic\, food and activities\nLive music from Big Boy Brass\, Barkley Cove Band\, The Moonlighter’s Big Band and Malta Band\, plus historical character performers. Activities include face painting\, kids’ building blocks\, storytelling\, magicians\, caricature art\, art exhibits\, a car show\, historical figure signature books\, and a wine & beer garden. Food trucks include Noels Cafe\, Lazzaro’s\, Bala Saahas\, Rendezvous Wood-Fired Pizza\, Freshly Greek and Antonella Modern Italian Fare\, alongside a local craft market. \nParade (11:30 AM)\nThe Capital Day Parade steps off from Penn Square with Big Boy Brass\, historic characters\, a replica of the Lancaster County Courthouse and the McCaskey drum line. DESCRIPTION:Join us at Welsh Mountain to celebrate local trails and land preservation on National Public Lands Day!\n\n\nLancaster County is the least forested county in PA. Since 1969\, Lancaster Conservancy has been working to preserve our woods and water to ensure healthy habitat for future generations and continuous migratory corridors for the critters that live in our forests. As a land trust\, the Conservancy is committed to public access to the preserves we steward. \nDuring our hike\, we’ll talk about the local ecosystem including the rare wildflowers that grow here\, the cultural history of the preserve\, and how the mix of living and dead trees indicates a healthy habitat. \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: This is a 2.7-mile hike with some slight elevation changes. Bring water\, snacks\, and pertinent personal first aid. Hiking poles may be useful. Headlamps are encouraged since we’ll be ending at dusk. There is a port-a-john at the parking lot. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). \nRefund Policy: These events often sell out. If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event.
