SUMMARY:Volunteer Workday at Rambler Trust
DESCRIPTION:Be a part of the solution and give back to nature!\n\n\nJoin us as we work on invasive plant removal as part of a comprehensive eco-restoration program for the Rambler Trust. We will be using hand tools to remove invasive shrubs and weeds. This work directly contributes to restoring native ecology and protecting regional biodiversity. This 70-acre property is owned by the Rambler Trust and managed by Lancaster Conservancy. Restoring native ecology is critically important to this unique parcel in the federally designated Highlands region\, which stretches from Pennsylvania through Connecticut. \nPlease Note: This property owned by the Rambler Trust is not open for public access or recreation. \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: We will use hand tools to remove invasive shrubs and weeds. The work involves using loppers and hand saws to cut shrubs at their base. Some of the shrubs have thorns. All tools and work gloves are provided. \nDress for the weather and wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy or torn. Sturdy pants are recommended due to the presence of thorns. Bring drinking water. There are no restrooms on site. This event is recommended for ages 12 and up (participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). \n**Where to Meet: Please meet at the parking lot area for State Game Lands 246 on Schoolhouse Road in Middletown\, PA. Directions can be found here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3ySczynfc3jDENTP8 \nGPS Coordinates: 40.211795\, -76.682600 \n**PLEASE NOTE that the parking location is different from the Eventbrite pinned location for this event. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation made at the time of the event for severe weather. If the Conservancy reschedules the event\, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event\, attendees will be notified via email and refunded. \nPhoto Credit: Keith Williams \n\n\nThank you to our generous annual sponsors for making this event possible!

SUMMARY:Habitat Advocate: Green Mulch - Native Plants for Layered Landscape Design
DESCRIPTION:Kick the mulch habit! Learn how to integrate native groundcovers (“green" or "living" mulch) into your garden.\n\n\nDo you find yourself in a seasonal habit of spreading wood mulch in your garden beds to suppress weeds? In this interactive workshop\, learn how to nurture a new land ethic of cultivating a layered landscape by integrating native groundcovers (“green or living mulch”) in your garden. Through mimicking natural landscapes\, you can transform the chaos of a weedy mess into a legible garden for the benefits of wildlife and watersheds! \nParticipants will practice a scaled design in the workshop and receive the take-home secret ecological gardening “recipe” that makes a native garden swoony to the eye and more easeful to steward! \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. Smaller patches of native habitats spread throughout urban landscapes are also essential to creating corridors of habitat – food and refuge – for wildlife. This is why we are offering our Habitat Advocate classes at Tec Centro in Lancaster City. \nThe cost of the Habitat Advocate classes covers instructor fees. If the cost of this class is prohibitive\, please reach out to Keith Williams\, VP of Engagement and Education\, at kwilliams@lancasterconservancy.org. \n \nYour Presenter\nElyse Jurgen\, owner of Waxwing EcoWorks Co.\, is a community collaborator working to rebuild ecological literacy and biodiversity through hands-on ecological gardening experiences in South Central PA. She is certified as a Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional and Ecological/Permaculture Designer\, along with earning an Ecological Gardening Certification from Mt. Cuba Center. She has a master’s degree in Environmental Education\, 7-12 Biology Teaching Certification\, and participated in Cornell University’s Civic Ecology program. \nElyse works alongside homeowners in a participatory approach to their gardening for wildlife needs\, infusing educational opportunities during the design\, installation\, and stewarding process. She invites homeowners to deeply engage with their land to maximize its potential in enhancing human well-being and supporting dwindling wildlife populations. \n \nAbout this Class\nThis course is open for general admission; there is no prerequisite required for this course. Learn more about Habitat Advocate classes and certification here. \nAttendees ages 16 and over are invited but must be accompanied by an adult if younger than 18. \n \nRefund/Cancellation Policies\nRefund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least two weeks before the event. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event\, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event\, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded. \n \nThank you to our host Tec Centro and partners Waxwing EcoWorks Co. and the Spanish American Civic Association (SACA)!\n \nPhoto: Elyse Jurgen of Waxwing EcoWorks Co. \n\n\nThank you to our generous annual sponsors for making this event possible!

SUMMARY:PIG w. Cyanotic & DNE
DESCRIPTION:DOORS @ 7PM | $25 ADV / $30 DOS | ALL AGES\n\n\nPIG’S TALE\n is Raymond Watts\, a British musician whose brand of electronic rock is danceable and deadly serious in turn. Watts’s words spring from the well of gallows humour in a world of corruscating cruelty and truth. climbs peaks and mines troughs\, and musical genres slide and collide like tectonic plates. \nBerlin yearsIn 1986 Raymond Watts awoke in West Berlin. It was a time of terror and turmoil\, in a city so depraved and decadent that the East Germans had walled it in. Watts had cut his teeth on tape loops in London and Hamburg\, but inspired by Berlin’s fetid air and his first 8-bit sampler\, Watts gave birth to in 1988\, when was cut from his belly with a rusty screwdriver in a basement opposite The Wall. The first squeals were committed to tape\, and saw the light of day as A Poke in the Eye. Wax Trax! jumped to release it. \nA year earlier\, in Hamburg\, he was bludgeoning the first KMFDM album into shape with En Esch and Sascha Konietzko. He had also helped deliver the sonic slaughter of Einsturzende Neubauten\, Psychic TV and most of the Berlin and Hamburg underground\, as both live and studio sound engineer\, and producer. \nAfter writing the music for the second KMFDM album\, Watts then slipped away to tour with Foetus\, playing keyboards and guitar. \nPraise the LardWhen The Wall collapsed\, the party was over. Watts returned to London and albums poured forth: Praise the Lard\, A Stroll in the Pork\, Shit For Brains\, Red Raw & Sore and The Swining. Watts programmed\, produced and performed\, ploughing a lone furrow until Karl Hyde\, singer and sinner with Underworld\, came to his assistance on guitars followed by Steve White. \nWatts had also developed a taste for all things Japanese. His label was based there\, his morals were parked there and had toured there many times. He was soon involved with a highly successful bunch of ne’er-do-wells called Schaft. Their album Switchblade\, and a sold-out tour\, followed. \nBack to Wax Trax!In 1994\, opened for NIN. This led to ‘s Sinsation album being released on Nothing Records — and then a return to Wax Trax! for Wrecked. \nWatts also rejoined KMFDM in 1994\, for the v KMFDM EP Sin\, Sex & Salvation. On the ensuing album Nihil Watts resumed writing and vocal duties and several heaving tours followed\, with Watts orchestrating the chaos from centre stage like a rampant ringmaster armed only with talent and tequila. \nMonsterWhen not on tour\, Watts could be found in his Ranch Apocalypse studios in London\, working on ‘s No One Gets Out of Her Alive\, Prime Evil\, Disrupt Degrade & Devastate and the KMFDM albums Symbols\, Attak and WW111. On the album Genuine American Monster\, Watts reunited with legendary guitarist Guenter Schulz. \nWhile in Toyko\, Watts gave birth to the band Schwein with Sascha Konietzko and the Japanese musicians Sakurai and Imai. The albums Schweinstein\, Son Of Schweinstein and a sold-out tour ensued. \nAfter releasing the album Pigmartyr (Pigmata on Metropolis)\, Watts spent time in London indoctrinating his piglets and initiating them into the parish of the pork. When not leading his children down the path of righteousness\, he could be found writing music for fashion and films for Alexander McQueen\, Chloe\, Marios Schwab\, Halston\, The Row and others. He also wrote music and did sound design for Punk: Chaos to Couture\, the exhibition at the Met in New York. \nSavage BeautyIn the final show before his death\, Alexander McQueen commissioned Watts and John Gosling\, Watts’s old partner-in-crime from Psychic TV days\, to embellish the serene instrumental track Inside\, from ‘s Genuine American Monster album. This became the soundtrack to what is seen as McQueen’s masterpiece\, Plato’s Atlantis. This show was reprised as the finale of Savage Beauty\, the McQueen retrospective that broke all records at the Met in New York and the V&A in London. He also wrote other original music and did sound design for the show. \n \n\n\nIn compliance with PA state law\, there will be a designated section for minors under the age of 21

SUMMARY:An Incredible Journey: Birding Along the Migratory Pathway
DESCRIPTION:Come explore the world of Pennsylvania's migratory visitors!\n\n\nEach year\, a variety of bird species travels thousands of miles between their summer homes in the US and Canada to their winter breeding grounds in Central and South America. The Susquehanna River valley is an important location along the migratory pathway\, providing crucial habitat where birds can rest and refuel on their journey. Songbirds\, shorebirds\, waterfowl\, and raptors can be seen and heard easily in the fall months on most of the trails and preserves. Your event leader\, Sarah Gotwols\, will help you explore the world of Pennsylvania’s migratory visitors and sharpen your observation skills as a birder. \nWhat to Expect: The Lloyd Clark Universal Access Trail will be used for the entirety of this event\, making this event friendly to those with varying mobility needs. Expect some stillness as we observe the wide-open sky to see avian species on the move. There is a port-a-john available on site. This event is for ages 10 and up (participants must be accompanied by an adult if younger than 18). \nWhat to Bring: Please bring binoculars if you have them\, drinking water\, and any snacks or personal supplies you may want. Dress for the weather and wear appropriate shoes. A portable chair or seat may be useful. If you do not have binoculars or a field guide\, some will be available to use during the event. \nEvent Leader: Sarah Gotwols is a Lancaster County native with a passion for birding and enthusiasm for educating the public on the importance of conservation and protection of our wild spaces. Sarah has spent countless hours on both land and water observing and learning about bird behavior and local habitat\, identifying avian species across local preserves\, waterways\, and beyond. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nRefund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event.
