A writer once said “Music is music. But music is also the stuff surrounding the music”. It’s that ethos that inspired Rob Walker to create The Chill Side, a new event at Zoetropolis on January 22nd. The Chill Side will be a curated, downtempo musical experience that taps into the blend of music, conversation, and atmosphere.
Walker has a background as a radio DJ and is the co-creator of Sonic Bliss, a radio show (with a style similar The Chill Side) that’s been on the air for more than 25 years. He first discovered this world while working at a radio station in Detroit, where he connected with a community of people hosting intentional listening experiences. The success of spots like Hi-Fi Izakaya show that there’s a growing appetite in Lancaster for places where the music and environment are as carefully designed as the menu.

The Chill Side provides “an experience to come and let the music swirl around you,” Walker says. This won’t be a generic Spotify playlist piped through speakers. Walker will be DJing live all night, reading the room and shaping the atmosphere in real time. The result is something you can’t replicate at home: a shared space where the music breathes and shifts with the crowd.
The Chill Side is meant for lingering. Bring friends. Meet someone new. Have a cocktail. Sit, sip, and slow down. Food and drink specials will be available, and the $10 cover keeps it accessible for everyone.
