SUMMARY:Habitat Advocate: Writing Nature - A Generative Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Express your ecological perspectives and experiences in this creative writing workshop!\n\n\nIn this class we’ll gather together to discuss the history\, purpose\, and enduring value of nature writing. Then\, we’ll explore tools for generating your own writing about ecology\, plants\, wildlife\, wilderness experiences\, and related topics. No writing background is necessary! \nParticipants will walk away with a creative writing “toolkit” to help stoke ideas\, dismantle writer’s block\, and support the creation of personal or professional nature-focused writing. \n \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. Smaller patches of native habitats spread throughout urban landscapes are also essential to creating corridors of habitat – food and refuge – for wildlife. This is why we are offering our Habitat Advocate classes at Tec Centro in Lancaster City. \nThe cost of the Habitat Advocate classes covers instructor fees. She has taught environmental education and creative writing at diverse institutions across Pennsylvania\, Maine\, and Colorado. \n \nAbout this Class\nOpen for general admission\, no prerequisite necessary for this class! DESCRIPTION:Explore nature through the lens of an ecological designer!\n\n\nIn this class we will tour some of the gardens that have brought monarch butterflies to the streets of southeast Lancaster city! We will practice using valuable community science apps\, like iNaturalist\, demystifying how to utilize them for our own habitat work and supporting research in this growing field. \nParticipants are responsible for providing their own sturdy shoes\, attire for mild walking\, sun protection\, and refillable water bottle. They are also encouraged to bring a cellphone with the iNaturalist app downloaded. \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity. DESCRIPTION:This is the final assessment for certificate students!\n\n\nYou made it! Congratulations! This class is the final assessment for certificate students who have successfully completed all requirements for the Habitat Advocate Certification program. The final capstone entails practicing an independent scaled ecological garden design project and a short hands-on service project with your graduating cohort. \nUpon completion of this final capstone design project\, students are given a take-home kit: native wildflower seeds\, a hori-hori knife\, and Conservancy swag. \nParticipants are responsible to provide their own sturdy shoes\, sun and bug protection\, and refillable water bottle. Please bring a packed lunch to enjoy as part of the mid-day break of this workshop. \n \nThe Lancaster Conservancy has protected over 11\,000 acres of natural lands\, which are critically important to supporting biodiversity.
