DESCRIPTION:Explore the cool waters and amazing life of Kreutz Creek!\n\n\nDid you know that studying the critters in our streams can tell us a lot about the health of our waterways? Join us as we explore Kreutz Creek at Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve. We will wade into the creek and flip rocks to see who is living under them\, net some fish\, and learn about stream ecology and the importance of keeping water clean. \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: We will meet at the barn at the Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve and walk a short distance to Kreutz Creek. Come ready to get wet and maybe muddy. Wear shoes that stay on feet and can get wet (old sneakers are the best). Bring drinking water. Recommended for ages 5 and up (attendees under age 18 must come with a responsible adult). Each person needs a ticket for this event. There are restrooms on site. \nNote: The preserve remains closed to general visitation while the Conservancy develops a management plan for the preserve\, although it is open for select education events. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nRefund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation decided at the time of the event for severe weather. This event will include a short\, easy hike. There are restrooms available on site. \nPlease Note: The preserve remains closed to general visitation while the Conservancy develops a management plan for the preserve\, although it is open for select education events. \nWhere to Meet: Follow the long gravel drive\, veering to the right at the barn. DESCRIPTION:Be a part of the solution and give back to nature!\n\n\nJoin us as we work on invasive plant removal as the first part of a comprehensive eco-restoration program for the Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve. We will be using hand tools to remove invasive shrubs and weeds. This work directly contributes to restoring native ecology and protecting regional biodiversity. \nPlease Note: Graham Nature Preserve is currently closed to the public except for select educational events. \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: We will use hand tools to remove invasive shrubs and weeds. The work involves using loppers and hand saws to cut shrubs at their base. Some of the shrubs have thorns. All tools and work gloves are provided. Dress for the weather and wear clothes you don’t mind getting muddy or torn. Sturdy pants are recommended due to the presence of thorns. Bring drinking water. There are restrooms on site. We will learn about moth ecology and identification as we examine the species that are attracted to our lights. Will we see luna moths? Ness beetles? June bugs? Giant cecropia moths? Maybe giant eyed click beetles? Come and find out! \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: This event is open to ages 10 and up (anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). This event will include an easy\, approximately 0.5-mile hike to a moth lighting station. There are restrooms available. Sturdy\, closed-toe shoes are highly recommended. Bring water and a snack.
