SUMMARY:Birding for Everyone: An Accessible Experience
DESCRIPTION:Whether you use a mobility aid or prefer a slower pace\, this birding hike is built to meet you where you are.\n\n\nBird observation is one of the most accessible ways that we can experience nature and wildlife. During this event\, participants will have an opportunity to learn more about bird habitat on the universally accessible trail at Mill Creek Falls Nature Preserve. This trail welcomes folks with mobility challenges and offers chances to see a variety of birds including woodpeckers\, songbirds and raptors that fly along the Susquehanna River. We will review birding basics\, with binoculars available for those who would like to use them\, and help with basic identification of common birds along the way. \nWhat to Expect and How to Prepare: The lollipop-shaped trail travels along the top of a heavily forested ridge. It has little elevation change and is about a mile in total. This crushed stone trail is universally accessible so all visitors\, including those with strollers\, wheelchairs\, or other mobility devices\, are able to experience the preserve. We will move at a pace that is comfortable for all participants and maximizes bird observation. \nThere is an accessible port-a-john available on site. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring water to drink\, any snacks you may need\, and pertinent personal first aid. \nThis event is recommended for ages 10 and up (participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult). \nEvent Leader: Sarah Gotwols\, Interpretive Ranger with Lancaster Conservancy and resident bird nerd\, is a Lancaster County native who has spent countless hours observing birds in their natural habitat along the Susquehanna River. \nRefund Policy: These events often sell out. If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket\, please let us know so we can open a spot to someone on the waitlist. Refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event. \nAnimal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home. \nCancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine\, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event\, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event\, attendees will be notified via email and refunded. \nPhoto Credit: Cammy Freed \n\n\nThank you to our generous annual sponsors for making this event possible!
