The Lancaster Snow Angels are a volunteer-driven nonprofit built on a simple idea: neighbors helping neighbors. When winter storms roll through Lancaster County, you’ll find them clearing driveways, shoveling sidewalks, and checking in on neighbors who need help the most.
I recently spoke with Jen Jarvis, founder and president of Lancaster Snow Angels. While awareness of the organization is growing, Jen emphasized that the needs across the county are still high. The group has been featured on WGAL, FOX43, WITF, and other outlets, helping spread the word about both their impact and the ongoing demand for support.
Jen, whose grandfather served in WWII, has a heart for helping veterans. “It doesn’t sit right with me that people who served our country and fought to protect our freedom are not taken care of in some of these basic ways.” The group focuses its support on veterans and others who need it most. Jen leads a group of over 30 volunteers who are ready to respond when the snow begins to stick.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors
What struck me most in speaking with Jen is how deeply grassroots this organization truly is. Jen and most of the volunteers all have full-time jobs, families, and responsibilities. The efforts are not emerging from an abundance of time or from the allure of fanfare.
This is not an organization enjoying annual retreats at exotic destinations or holding board meetings at five-star restaurants. Jen and her team organize the volunteer efforts, raise funds for the organization, and are the first to load up their snow shovels to clear the driveways and sidewalks.
Jen often reminds people that “it costs nothing to be kind,” and that “kindness is the best form of humanity.” Those words are more than just slogans. If you want to see how this translates into actions of neighborly love, follow the Lancaster Snow Angels on Facebook. In addition to shoveling snow, you might see Jen delivering a hot meal to a neighbor in need, asking for specific donations, or promoting other great non-profits like Off The Streets.
How It All Began
Lancaster Snow Angels formed in 2020, during the height of the pandemic. After Jen and her husband, Junior Rosado, were laid off from work, they discovered a community group called Dig Out Lancaster. At the time, the group was receiving numerous requests from elderly residents across Lancaster County who needed help clearing snow. They threw themselves into the volunteer work.
During that first season, they cleared more than 30 addresses per storm—often taking three to four days to complete each round as requests kept coming in. By the second season, more volunteers joined, allowing the group to grow. Each year brought more helping hands, forming what is now known as the Snow Angels.
Raising Funds to Meet the Demand
To keep up with growing demand, Lancaster Snow Angels recently obtained a license to raise funds through gift raffles, helping them invest in equipment, safety supplies, and expanded services. If you’re looking to support their mission and have a chance to win some fun prizes, here’s what’s currently available:
- 2026 Chevrolet Silverado Raffle – $50 per ticket
- Ninja Kitchen Makeover Raffle – $10 per ticket
- Gift Card Mega Raffle – $5 per ticket
Moving forward, Jen hopes to expand services to better support veterans and other underserved groups, including the elderly, mobility-impaired, and special-needs community members across Lancaster County. They are already working to meet additional needs, such as providing lawn care for neighbors who can no longer maintain their properties.
