The Lancaster Public Libraries 2026 Summer Reading Program

The Library System of Lancaster County, the Local Public Libraries, and the Bookmobile Announce the 2026 Summer Reading Program!

PRESS RELEASE

The Library System of Lancaster County, the Local Public Libraries, and the Bookmobile are kicking off the countywide 2026 Summer Reading Program, “Unearth A Story,” on Saturday, June 6th. This year’s program will take place in-person and online from Saturday, June 6th to Saturday, August 15th.

The Summer Reading Program brings children, teens, and families to local public libraries for reading, activities, and programs focused on literacy, STEM, and creativity. Starting on June 6th, readers ages birth through 19 can register for the program in person at their local library or online at https://lancasterlibraries.beanstack.org/.

The Summer Reading Program is designed to encourage children to keep reading during the summer to prevent “the summer slide,” maintain their reading skills, stay motivated to read, build self-confidence, and develop a love of reading and libraries. The Summer Reading Program supports the Pennsylvania Academic Standards, the Pennsylvania STEELS Standards, and the Early Learning Standards.

In addition to the Library System of Lancaster County, this year’s local Summer Reading Program sponsors include M&T Charitable Foundation, Gallagher Insurance, and Magic & Wonder Dinner Theater.

For more information on this year’s Summer Reading Program and events, contact your local public library or visit https://lancasterlibraries.org/srp/.
